European Jewish Life and the Holocaust

Munich, Germany – Prague, Czechia – Kraków, Poland Maymester 2027 Study Abroad

This study abroad course invites students on a powerful exploration of Jewish life, the Holocaust, and the politics of remembrance in Europe. Traveling through Munich, Prague, and Kraków, we will engage with the lived landscapes of Jewish history, the Nazi reign, and Holocaust memory—including ghettos, concentration camps, synagogues, and sites of resistance. Key course sites include Dachau, Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, and the former Kraków ghetto, as well as museums, cemeteries, and contemporary Jewish cultural centers. Throughout, we will ask how memory is shaped by the past as well as by the politics of the present. This unforgettable experience offers a profound opportunity to reflect on the endurance of Jewish identity and the ongoing struggle to reckon with the past.
